In order to encourage independent living for young people under 36 years old, Decree Law No. 73/2021 introduced new indirect tax benefits for buying a first home.

What are the benefits:

  • for purchases not subject to VAT: exemption from payment of registration, mortgage and cadastral taxes;
  • for purchases subject to VAT: exemption from registration, mortgage and cadastral taxes, as well as recognition of a tax credit in the amount equal to the VAT paid to the seller;
  • exemption from substitute tax for financing provided for the purchase, construction and renovation of real estate for residential use.
